say is St. Stephen's, the boys go around with the wren, and they be collecting pennies, they have a little rhyme:-
The wreck, the wren the king of the birds.
St Stephen's day she was caught in the furze.
Although she is little her family is great.
Rise up land lady and give us a treat.
And if your treat is of the best.
I hope in heaven your should will rest.
If your treat is only small, it won't agree with the wren boys at all.
Up with the kettle and down with the pan.
Give us an answer and we will be gone.
"New year's day" is the next feast day.
the old people believe that whatever work you do on that day, you will be doing it for the year. The next day is the sixth of January and it is the finishing up of Xmas. Then we have St Patrick's day the 17th of March it is a great feast day. Men come to the Chapel with flutes and drums in honour of St Patrick. Other men be selling oranges and apples and sweets so we have great fun.
