- Brief Historical Sketch, giving the names of its Ministers, and other interesting events which occurred as far back as almost 300 years.Burt and Derry were originally a united charge, but in 1672, the parish was divided, and the following year, Rev. William Hempton, a licentiate from Scotland, became the first minister of the separate charge. Mr Hempton returned to Scotland at the Revolution, and was succeeded by Rev. Andrew Ferguson, who came from Scotland in 1690. Under his ministry the congregation grew so much, that, by order of the Lagan Presbytery, the church was enlarged, probably taking the "T" shape, which was so characteristic of Presbyterian Architecture in those days. There is an interesting extract from the old Session Book of Mr Ferguson's time, which has been preserved, and from which the following is taken:-"June 25th, 1694. It was concluded (by order of the Session) that the Lord's Supper,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
