1. Churning

   We have a churn at home. I saw two different kind of churns. One was called a barrel churn and the other was called a dash churn. A dash churn is four feet high and is twenty round the top and bottom.
   The sides of a dash churn are wide at the top and not so wide at the crib.
   Then the barrel churn has bevelled sides. The dash churn is about eighty years old and the barrel one is about twelve years old.
   The different parts of a dash churn are bottom, crib and dash. The parts of a barrel one are stand, barrel, lid and handle.
   There is no peculiar mark on the bottom or side of the dash churn but on a barrel one there is a piece of glass to show you when the butter is nearly made.
   Then we also have the air escape to let the gases get away and not burst the churn.
   Butter is made twice a week
