- We have a churn at home and it is called a "plunge" - churn. It is about three feet high. It is two feet three inches wide at the top and one foot ten inches wide at the bottom. The sides are round. It is about forty years old. The article that we churn with is called a churn - staff.
Butter is made twice a week in summer and once a week in winter. My father and mother do the churning. If any strangers come in when churning is going on they help us to churn because it is very lucky. It takes about an hour to churn the milk in winter and about-one half-hour to churn it in summer. The churning is done by hand. The churn-staff is moved upwards and downwards.
Hot water is poured in to heat the milk in winter but this is not done in summer.
