  1. A hedge school existed in our district one time. There was no local name for the hedge school. There was one in Eskeragh and another in Dooleeg a few yards behind Eskeragh bridge. It was on John Holmes land. The remains of it can be seen yet.
    It was taught in a sod house and it had a thatched roof. Miss Mary Coleman taught in it. She was no stranger as she had come from Crossmolina, five miles from this place.
    The teacher lodged in every farmer's house. The children paid a certain sum per quarter to the teacher for the instruction
