  1. Cures (Whose Practice Is Rapidly Lessening)
    Whooping Cough: 1st cure; ask the first man you see coming with a white horse for a cure.
    Do as he bids, however foolish his advice may be.
    2nd cure; Give asses milk occasionally to child.
    3rd cure; Catch a fish alive and give three drops of water out of his mouth to child.
    4th cure; Go to where a stream of river forms a boundary between two parishes. Bring the child across it three times in one direction, praying while doing so.
    5th cure: Give a magpie's soup to the child.
    6th cure: Tie a spit - nancy (i. e. some hairy kind of an animal of the snail species) in a rag around the childs neck and leave it there until it dries.
    7th cure: Give the ferret's leaving to the child
