    her hair seated on a tree trunk on the shore of the lake which is not more than 500 yards from where he stood. He called the attention of an old woman to the apparition. She did not seem to wonder saying that was a costumary occurance. During the civil war some Republican soldiers went to the island to spend the night. They were warned of its history which they scofffed at. Yet they were glad when after a short summers night they saw the first break of day to herald relief after the experiences they went through during the night. They would not spend another night there for love or money. Some years previous to that some fishermen spent one night of agony in the same place. They brought their boats and tents and fishing gear into the island in the evening but when the daylight came they were glad to come ashore and pack up their boats, tents, and fishing gear and leave the locality without divulging the reason of their departure.
