   nothing about fairs being held on hills in this neighbourhood. There is a fair-green very close to the town of Ballyhaunis. Toll is is paid on animals when they are sold, on bonhams three pence, and on cows usually a shilling; but some people pay half a crown. When an animal is sold luck-money is given. It is called "luck-money" or "luck-penny". When a bargain is made the buyer and seller strike each other's hands. Purchased animals are marked with chalk or with a knife. The halter is given to the buyer with a horse.
