- Long ago some of the Irish people were very interested in composing poems and songs. There is a little girl living in Coogue and her name is Sally Mulkeen. She composed a song called "Séan Corcoran's Early Grave." There was a man living in Ballyhaunis about two years ago named J. Waldron who is now married in America that composed a poem and these are a few of the lines.
My father's cottage by the moor,
Ah! racing heart, go slow,
My sister standing by the door
Are memories of Mayo,
Are memories I can't live down,
No matter where I go;
The scences around Ballyhaunis
town,
In the County of Mayo.
Though living here with
children dear,
