Herbs were used very often long ago as cures and poisins and also for food and toys
The old cure for 'Johndus' was to eat a plate of nettles The nettles were first boiled well, which took the sting from them. It tasted very like spinach though not so nice. The cure acts quicker if the nettles are young.
Ferns were used for rheumatism by constant rubbing on the affected spots.
