  1. New Abbey is situated about one mile from Kilcullen. It was owned by the monks and was founded by Fitz-Eustace.
    In olden times when the monks had it there was a tunnel running from it to Old Kilcullen. When the Danes would come to plunder the monastery the monks would take the sacred things and bring them through the tunnel to Old Kilcullen for safety.
    The monastery is in ruins at present while the present grave-yard lies beside it.
    The above story was told by Mr. James Cullen Kilcullen Aged 46 years.
