  1. Unlike nowadays the old people used not get married only in shrove, unless in a very rare occasion. When a man and woman would be going to get married, the man would send somebody to settle with the parents. Then if both parties were satisfied the marriage would take place immediately afterwards.
    On the following night after the agreement, the man would go with three or four neighbours to the house for the fortune this may be, a field of hay or grass, a sow and bonhams, or a couple of cows or a horse, or often 3 or 4 cattle.
    On next day the couple would do the the chapel
