There is a hill the other side of the town called Gallow's Hill...

There is a hill the other side of the town called Gallow's Hill. All the criminals of the County Leitrim sentenced to death used to be executed hanged on this hill. The Gallows half way up on the side of the hill. It was discontinued about 1815 or 1820 and the scene was changed to Sligo. There weren't enough hangings. I couldn't find out who was the hangman, but in those days Carrick-on-Shannon was a military town and had a county gaol. The gaol is now pulled down to supply building material for the new houses, and the old Military Barracks is the residence of the Presentation Brothers.
