  1. Holly & ivy. Christmas block.
    Candle - generally one in the kitchen window, but some burn 3, one in each window. Lit by head of house generally, some say be eldest son, others say by youngest son.
    Left burning all night by some, quenched by others when going to bed.
    When being lit, holy water is sprinkled on it and on each member of family.
    Supposed to be exposed in windows as a guide to those in need of a night's lodging, as a sign that they would not be refused as was Our Lord.
