  1. Company of Irish Volunteers formed in Meelick previous to 1916 - about the time Carson started Ulster Vols. Prime mover, Mick Brennan, now General Brennan, Chief of Staff. Most of the young men joined. Brennan deported in 1916 and Vols. barely existed till his return after the general release in 1917 Mick resumed. In 1918 some of the Vols. (M. Brennan, Frank Gallagher) were deported in connection with German Scare. Things became lively in late months of 1920 and early months of 1921. Many members of the company were arrested, including Patk. White the captain, who was later shot
