  1. Several years ago a man came to work In Cratloe parish.
He worked for about a year in the same farmer’s house and during his time thee he fell in love with a milkmaid working on an adjoining farm.
This labourer had little or no schooling and to add to that he had no religion.
In time marriage was spoken of. And the parish priest “Father Curtain told the girl that she should instruct her intended in the catholic religion before he could marry them.
When she had instructed hi well as she thought she brought him to Father Curtain to be examined.
The first question the priest asked the man was to make the sign of the cross.
He started off “In the name of the father and of the son” when he got that far he stopped and could not remember the rest.
Suddenly he turned back to where his intended was sitting and inquired”Mary” what is the other fellows name.
