  1. Long ago when Schools were forbidden by the English Government, there was a hedge-school at Clarkes hill on the Garronboy road. A scholar would come around and stay at a farm-house for about a fortnight. All the children for miles around would come to get educated. The only pay those men got was a penny from each child because the people then were very poor. Then he would go to some district. One of those men were known to stop at Mr. Parker's house in Ballyvalley. When
