    Twas on a Sunday evening.

The following is a song composed by a Sergent Kelly — one of the R.I.C men who lived in Ballina. It is sung to the air of "Wearing of the Green"
    Twas on a Sunday evening.
    Some minutes after nine,
When the boys began to gather
To the house of Judy Ryan
Twas a decent kind of cottage
And twas built upon the rates.
It had painted doors and windows.
and a roof of solid slates
They were there from Coole to Derry.
    and a few from every-where.
    From Chapel Street to Ogennelloe
