  1. The Great Famine was from 1846-1848 and it effected this district a lot. The district was thickly populated that time. Then there came a blight came on the potatoes and they failed. The potatoes decayed in the ground and in the pits too. The people went out through the fields and gathered wild weeds and ate them with salt. Great sickness followed the hunger in the famine times.
