- During the bad times many people suffered very much.
There were twice as many people living in my district long ago than now.
The people had the potatoes so plentiful one year that they heaped them up against the fences. The next year the blight came and destroyed all the crop. They had no seed for the following year. The people had to eat turnips and Indian meal. Seed potaoes were never scattered like grain in my district.
Only a few people died of starvation in my place, one died in a wood near Ballymacarbery and a man who was passing by found him.
