- There is an old saying which is true. "Christmas comes but once a year but when it comes it brings good cheer." No other feast of the year brings so much joy to the hearts of the people as this feast does.
On Christmas Eve candles are lighted and put on every window in the house to show light to the Blessed Virgin and St. Joseph if by chance they should pass. On that night also a great feast is prepared. The parents generally bestow presents on each member of the family. The young children think that they could not get anything so valuable as a Christmas stocking. Each child hangs up his own stocking and in the morning is overjoyed to find it filled with presents.
It is considered right that the growing-up people should receive Holy Communion on Christmas Day. Each priest has leave to say three Masses in honor of the three births of Our Lord.
It is customary that all members of the family who during the year have been earning their living away from home come back once more to form the old family circle at the christmas. At the Christmas dinner. This in itself is a most enjoyable occasion(continues on next page)- Collector
