    I went out one pleasant evening in the merry month of May

    I went out one pleasant evening in the merry month of May,
    I espied a mother and daughter as I marched along my way,
    The daughter shook her shoulders as she milked away at the cow
    Saying I will and I must get married for the humour is on me now.

    And when you will get married,
    Will you tell me who's the man?
    And cheekily she answered
    Its William James McCann
    He's a carpenter and a glazier
    And the man that follows
