    In the sweet summer season
    Dame Nature seems pleasing
    The fields were engaging
    and charming to view
    I carelessly roam by the
    side of Ball's grove,
    Where warblers in droves their
    sweet notes renew
    I sat myself down by a
    large flowing river
    I espied a young damsel
    both handsome and kind
    She appeared to me with her
    bow and her quiver
    And wounded me sore on
    The banks of the Boyne.
