Ar an leathanach seo

  1. All the old houses were thatched. Sometimes farmers thatched their own houses, but usually there was a local thatcher in the district. The thatch was got from straw.
    The bed was placed in the kitchen beside the fire. It was called a settle-bed.
    In some houses, the fire was in the corner, but mostly, it was to be seen at the gable-wall. Some houses had no chimney, a few had a hole in the roof instead.
    Old floors were made of clay.
    Halfdoors were, and still are, very common in the district.
    Turf and wood were used as fuel. Candles were used to give lights at night.
