Large numbers of servants were employed by the O'Reilly's. One day word was conveyed to the O Reilly's that the castle was to be attacked by the Cromwellian soldiers. They were well equipped with heavy cannon and for several days they battered the walls of the castle with cannon ball. But the bombardment seemed to have no effect. The English were about to withdraw, when a traitor from the ranks of the defenders arrived in their camp.
