    About twelve years ago there used to come a man to Virginia and his name was Charles Daly. He used to travel about from one town to another with an ass and cart.
    He used to make porringers out of tins he used to sell those things to the people and he would get food instead.
    He would tell stories and bring news from distant parts and the people used to gather round to listen to him.
    About fourteen years ago there used to come a man and a woman to Virginia and they were known as Charles the Saw Man and Ellen the Saw Woman.
