  1. Many years ago when I was but a child I was accustomed to visit an aged girl named Rose Tormey who lived beside the Corn Mill near Kilnaleck. She lived with her sister Bridget and their father owned the corn mill formerly, and the adjoining lands.
    This girl used to make the turf annually at the boundary of my father’s farm. She was a great "Sean cardhe" and we children used to love to run down to the turf bank to have a chat with her while she was working in the bog,
    She was illiterate never having spent a day at school never less she had a fund of old stories and could relate them in a manner that captivated the attention of us children. The story that interested me most was “The White woman of Relagh crossroads” she told me that on one occasion when she was about fifteen years old her father had a litter of pigs which he intended to sell in the fair of
