1. The Bush of Ardleny

   Ardleny is a townland situated (situ) about one and a half miles from the village of Kilnaleck. About a mile from Relagh crossroads at the end of a long boreen and growing on the side of the road stood the Bush of Ardleny. It was a famous land mark in the history of by-gone times. This poem was written by a local poet named Lynch of Ardleny who died about forty years ago.
   I Verse
   In dreary dark December of the year of '94
   That night I will remember, till my days on earth are o'er.
   Dark was the night, cold blew the wind, and thickly fell the rain,
   When we lost the pride of Ardleny at the end of the long lane
   The ancient bush of Ardleny stood many a blast of wind.
   It stood the fearful storm in the year 1839
   It was many a hundred years of age that old and ancient tree.
   II Verse
   That old ancient tree.
   That long had been the country's pride the
