Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The oldest way of churning was with the hand. Then it was done with a machine and now it is done with the hand again.
    The milk is put into a wooden churn, and when it is thick a wooden
    '' dash '' is put into it and it is lifted up and down.
    The churn is about three feet high and about a foot and a half wide. It has a lid that sits about six inches down in it.
    The dash has a handle about four feet long, and a round head about the size of a dinner plate, with holes in it. There is a hole in the centre of the lid, and the dash is put down first, then the lid is put on, and the dash is moved up and down through the hole.
    In the winter time hot water is put into the milk to make the butter come quicker.
    Long ago there were witches who used to take the butter. One day a woman was churning. One of her neighbours who could take the butter came into the house, and she did not help with the churn. The other woman knew that it was her that was taking the butter, so she took the broom and chased her with it. The witch turned into a hare, and disappeared among the fields. Then a man and a dog came along and the
