Long long ago people used to eat different kinds of bread from what they eat now. They used to eat Oatmeal bread, Boxty, Pancakes, Griddle bread Potatoe bread and Indian meal Dumplings
The oatmeal bread was baked in front of the fire on a Bread Iron. It was made out of oatmeal and when it was baked it was hard. The bread iron was nearly the shape of a horse shoe and made of iron. There was a handle on the back of it to keep it standing up and you could put it near the fire or nearly a piece away from it.

Boxty could be made in two ways
It could be baked or it could be boiled. It was made out of flour and potatoes.
First the potatoes were washed and then pealed. Then they were grated on a grater. After that it was put into a cloth and all the water was taken out of it. Then it was mixed with some boiled potatoes and a little salt put in it. Then it was made into little cakes and put into boiling water in a pot and boiled for about an hour.
