- Travelling people call to my home at all times of the year. They usually travel in caravans drawn by horses, and they live in these caravans with their families.
They never stay in houses, and they do not bring news.
Sometimes they have with them articles with them which they offer for sale; - porringers, cans, strainers etc. The women folk sell boot laces, pins, brooches, pieces of lace, hairpins, scissors, combs etc. They are never very poor, and are usually well clothed and well fed. '' Crossing the hand with silver '' means putting silver money on the hand. The alms the travelling people accept are: flour, bread, bacon, eggs, tea, sugar, potatoes, money, and old clothing(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
