    horse-hair, feathers and old clothes. He never paid money for such articles but exchanged them for the articles he sold.
    Hughie the Whistler was a great whistler. It is said he could bring any dog in the country with him. Any place he fancied a dog he had only to whistle and the dog followed him.
    The travellers are welcomed and usually stay for one night. They usually sleep near the fire in the kitchen. They all travelled on foot in olden times, and usually singly. Sometimes a family or band of "gipsies" or "Tinkers" come to the district. They usually come for the local fair. These people are not liked as they are usually troublesome.
    The "poor people" who travelled singly some years ago were usually quiet, but often had peculiar habits. They usually brought news from distant parts to each district. They did not come very often - perhaps only once a year.
