  1. Battle:
    There was a small battle fought along the lane from the Cross Roads to Mr. John Byrne's house, Gold Mines. Many soldiers were killed in it and they were supposed to be buried in a field of Mr.Wolohan's, Ballintemple, and that field is called the "Soldiers' Field" ever since. Mr.Hagan was telling me he thinks it was fought before '98.
    Cromwell:
    Cromwell's visit to Ireland did not affect my district. Redcross is a small (district) village not far from this district and it is supposed to have suffered a lot. It is said that the blood ran in the form of a cross and that is the reason it is called Redcross. A shore is also near that place where priests were supposed to have
