    Gold was found years ago in this district in the part known as the Goldmines Valley - along by the Goldmines river, whch rises in Croghan and flows till it meets and joins the Aughrim river at
    Woodenbridge. It was worked in Ballinasillogue about 90 years ago and a lot of gold was supposed to have been found in it. It was worked by a man named Mr.Atching and his staff of men.It was working for about 2 years and then fell through because the Government would not allow them to work. It was reopened again in Ballinasillogue lately but it fell through again. The same company opened it again in Ballintemple about 1937. They
