  1. The following are some of the local roads, the Commons road, and the Whaley Abbey road. The Whaley Abbey road leads from Clash to Aughrim, and the Commons Road leads from Clash to Maccreden and from Maccreden to Aughavana. The Whaley Abbey Road is said to be the oldest road in the district. These roads were made as relief to the people during the Famine period. The rivers were crossed at Glenmalure and Whaley Abbey by means of fords before bridges were made.
