Long ago people went to a well on May morning. They skimmed the well and each person said, "I cry halves." This meant they would be able to take the butter from the people who would churn next day. They also believed that if you wet your lips with the dew on May morning, you would have no sickness during the year. - In olden times the people put the May bush on a heap of manure. On the night before May day the one that would be going to be queen, went and brought the May-bush home. She brought with her a furze bush in bloom. The person that would be able to know how many seeds would be in one box would dress the May-bush. The people used hang eggshells on the May-bush.
