On certain feast days, certain kinds of food were eaten. On Easter Sunday a lot of eggs were boiled and everybody tried to eat more than anybody else. Colcannon was eaten on Hallowe'en it was made from potatoes mixed with other vegetables such as onions and cabbage. On Shrove Tuesday pancakes were eaten. Tea was first used in this district about one hundred years ago, the people were very fond of it and sometimes they drank it late at night. Before cups were made they drank out of noggins, which were wooden vessels. There were special noggin - makers. The noggins sometimes had stems on them like egg - stands, they were held by the stems, while others had a handle on the side.

  2. Long ago most people got three meals a day. They got up very early in the morning and went out to work before their breakfast. They got potatoes, salt and butter - milk for their breakfast. They were not very exact about the time they got their meals. Then they went to work again and when it was about two o'clock they came home for their dinner
