    of the gold. The canoes were brought to Birr Castle and one of them was sent to the museum in Dublin.
    A Mr. Drought of Whigsborough House, Whigsborough, Birr, Offaly took the stones of the castle to build a wing to his house but he could never roof it. A priest by the name of Gilson told Mr. Drought to leave back the stones and build it with bricks so he did that and now he has his house roofed.
    A marble slab was found also and on it was written a latin epitaph which was copied and brought to the priest in Cloghan, Offaly.
    The priest translated it into English. He said it was very bad latin. The meaning of it was :- Paul Gore and wife were buried underneath it they were from Fermanagh
