  1. Years ago in the days of the evictions they army was coming to Clonmacnois to evict them for the taxes and head men were Mr. Brummel and Eggshaw. The men and women all got out and built walls across the road and cut trees to stop them. They cut the bog-road in several places. The men of Clonfanlough when they saw them coming rang the chapel bell, to let the Clonmacnois people know they were coming.
    Despite all their efforts they arrived in Clonmacnois, but the people attacked them and soon made them surrender by beating them with bottles and stones. They put the
