  1. There was an insurgent hero lived in this district in the '98 period.
    He was known locally as the "croppy boy" for the reason that he had only one ear. This man was badly wanted by the British forces, at the time and was kept continually on the run.
    On one particular night he was sleeping in a friend's house in Raheenahone, Bree, Enniscorthy. The red coats came along the Ballymorris road, which wasn't much more than a bad lane at the time.
    The redcoats called to a house known as "Dempsey's of the hollow," the position of which house is now marked by a cherry tree, situated at the foot of the hill on the Ballymorris road.
    The croppy boy wasn't there and the red coats went in direction of Raheenahone, Bree, where their quarry slept, as he thought in safety.
    The daughter of the house, Moll Dempsey then started across the fields to the croppy with the news of the soldiers' approach. She
