Father John fought with the Northern army at Tubberneering Arkow, Carnew etc.
He marched from Vinegar Hill to Carlow and when he was coming back to Ferns, the yeomen took him and they whipped him and they hung him and then they burnt his body.
When his sister Mrs. Walsh of Effernogue heard of his death she went to Carlow and tradition says she took the ashes of his body and buried it at the back of the church here in Ferns.
