- 222St David's WellThere is in the Parish of Oylegate a holy well called St David's well. It is situated on the lands of a protestant family. It was closed up for a number of years by those people
It was used for the cure of warts and sore eyes There it remained for a number of years. One day during a conversation with one of the descendants of the family a local Protestant was reminded of the closing of the well by his ancestors to prevent the Catholics from visiting it. The man gave his consent to have the well reopned. The site was not known until an old map was found which pointed out the plae. Willing hands set to work and were rewarded by the finding of some steps or stone work leading to the well.
The water sprang up again and a new well was built around it and a ststue of St David erected. This statue was given by a man named Mr Ptk O Leary. This was in the year 1912. A pilgrimage started and thousands of people from all parts of Ireland and over seas came to visit it. People with various diseases were reported cured. Numbers of people are visiting this well.
