    a cup of tea at three o'clock, tea was a treat to people then because it was dear and some people could not afford to buy it. When tea first came into use mugs were used for drinking it.
    Farmers usually killed their own meat, the vegetables used were turnips and cabbage. On Fridays they ate potatoes and butter.
    Wooden and pewter plates and utensils were used long ago instead of China and Delph.
