  1. In the early eighties nearly all the land of Ireland was owned by landlords and the rent on these estates was generally collected by agents. Then other acts followed under which nearly all the land of Ireland was purchased.
Before the passing of these acts there were many evictions for he non-payment of rent. The rent at that time was very high and on some estates it was over £2 per acre and in nearly every case it was reduced by half under the purchase scheme.
Before this there was a very bad landlord named Lord Ardilaun who owned land in this parish. He had a worse agent named Sweeney who carried out evictions at Norristown, Grasscur and Poulmanna.
