- On Saint Patrick's Day the children wear little crosses on their shoulders in honour of Saint Patrick because it was Saint Patrick who brought the True Faith to Ireland in the year 432. Saint Patrick's cross is made in the following way.
A piece of cardboard is got and cut out in the form of a circle about two or three inches wide. Then pieces of different coloured ribbons about four inches long and half an inch broad are got and sewn on to the cardboard circle in the form of a cross. This is worn by the little girls and sometimes worn by the boys on Saint Patrick's Day.
On May eve the children put up a May bush in honour of Our Blessed Lady. This is the way that a May bush is made. The children gather primroses, and cowslips, and a lot of other flowers and tie them in little bunches on the whitethorn bush and put it standing in front of the house on the Dunghill some people(continues on next page)- Collector
