  1. We have a churn at home and it is about three feet high. It is about a foot and a half at the bottom and a foot and a quarter at the top. The sides of the churn are round and it is about five years old. The different parts of the churn are as follows, the bottom, the crib, the chime, the hoops, the lid, the cupan and the churn-dash.
    The butter is made about three times a week in the Summer time and once a week in the Winter time and the reason of this is the milk is more plentiful in the Summer than in the Winter and in the hot weather the milk ripens much quickly. Everybody helps to do the churning and persons who come in during help at the work and say"I will leave the weight of my self in it".
    When the churning is done by hand it takes about a half an hour to do the churning and the churn dash is always moving upwards and downwards.
    When the butter is made it gathers in small lumps on the dash and on the top of milk.
    Water is poured in a couple of times during churning.
    When the churning is done the butter is gathered by means of spinning round the dash and then the butter is taken of the churn and the milk is washed of it by cold water and then it is
