    A Hedge School
    12th Jan; 1938.
    There was a "Hedge School" in the townland of Killeen, in the parish of Granard, Co. Longford. The name of the teacher who taught in it was Mr Thomas O'Reilly.
    There were about fifteen children attending it. They wrote with quill pens made from the feather of a goose, and had no blackboards. They had to sit on the ground on small blocks of wood.
