  1. St. Brigid's Well.
    Brideswell St. in Athlone is called after St Brigid's well which can still be seen there in a field beside the street. In 1860 the owner of the field refused to allow the people of the neighbourhood come + take water from the well. Soon the well rose and flooded the man's land. He was told that if he let the people take water from the well the field would not be flooded. He consented and the floods abated. The well is open ever since + people still go there for water.
    It was also supposed by the women to contain a cure for barrenness or sterility
