    premises, as well as in others, the bacon was 'saved', as they said. It was tramped on with the feet. Another famous house for bacon-curing was Mackens of Church St., at the top of Glasses Lane. Campbells prepared this bacon for export.
    Tinkers.
    Tinkers were hard at work in the market-place too. They did all sorts of work with tin.
    Blacksmiths
    There were several black-smiths in Athlone. Reilly of Glasses Lane was the besty smithy in town. They worked in forges with thatched roofs. Their chief work was the making and putting on of horse-shoes. Their best day
