A short distance from Moate on the road to Clara, there lived up to about fifty years ago a family named Cuddy (or Coady). They were very charitable people. During the famine years & later they were in very poor circumstances. One day a poor beggar almost dead from starvation called at the Coady's house, and asked for alms in the
